The Brow Lift Procedure

Dr. Champion and her staff will prepare you for every step in the brow lift procedure, including: the initial consultation, pre-operative planning, the operation itself and post operative follow up. Your individualized needs, comfort and safety are our concerns. There are primarily four steps that are involved in the brow lift procedure, including:

The Anesthesia

Brow lift surgery patients will receive anesthesia to feel very comfortable for the procedure. Dr. Champion will discuss options available for your procedure at the time of an initial consultation.

The Incision

Brow lift surgery incisions are designed to be concealed through small incisions located within the hairline temples and scalp. There may be one incision that may extend from one top of the ear to the other. In addition, treatment may involve tiny incisions hidden in the crease of the upper eyelid. Dr. Champion will review incision options that are appropriate for your desired outcome at the time of consultation.

The Brow Lift Technique

During brow lift surgery, Dr. Champion may use an endoscope (surgical video device) to guide the repositioning or removal of tissue and muscle beneath the skin. Alternatively, she may perform a coronal brow lift to treat specific bothersome areas of the forehead and brow. Dr. Champion may also treat the upper eyelids to further improve frown lines between the brows. Then, she may tighten eyelid muscles and tissue as well as trim any excess skin. Finally, Dr. Champion will close the incision with tiny removable or absorbable sutures, skin adhesives and/or surgical tape.

Brow Lift Surgery Recovery

Brow lift surgery recovery requires special attention. Patients usually return to normal activities within a few days following the procedure. The results of the brow lift are evident when swelling and bruising subsides. Dr. Champion will provide you with a list of instructions thatl to follow in order to help avoid complications and provide for a quality recovery. These instructions will include: medications to take, dates to return to the office, hygiene, care for incisions, and the types of activities to perform or avoid in the weeks following brow lift surgery.

The practice of medicine and surgery is not an exact science. Although good results are expected, there is no guarantee. In some situations, it may not be possible to achieve optimal results with a single surgical procedure and another surgery may be necessary. In rare cases, complication may arise, but can be managed when immediately reported to Dr. Champion.

Rare complications include: unfavorable scarring, infection, poor incision healing, bleeding (hematoma), fluid accumulation, pain, deep vein thrombosis, temporary or permanent numbness, correctable hair loss at the incision locations, elevated hairline, facial nerve injury, facial asymmetry, skin discoloration and swelling, skin contour irregularities, eye irritation or dry eyes.

The brow lift procedure is long lasting, but may require a revision as you continue to age. However, Dr. Champion's patients continue to enjoy a more youthful, rested appearance to their forehead on a daily basis.
