Approved by the FDA, BOTOX® is derived from botulinum toxin and blocks nerve impulses to temporarily paralyze facial muscles. This injectable is also effective in relieving migraine headaches, excessive sweating, and muscle spasms in the neck. Contact us today to schedule your Newport Beach BOTOX® appointment.

The BOTOX® Procedure

Dr. Champion and her staff will help prepare you for each step of the BOTOX® procedure. There are primarily three steps that are involved, including:

Anesthetic

A topical anesthetic will be applied to numb the areas of injection before BOTOX® is administered. Dr. Champion will discuss the type of anesthetic that you may receive at the time of the consultation.

BOTOX® Injections

BOTOX® is injected directly into the face using a very thin needle. Multiple injections are usually administered to various areas of the face during the same treatment to attain full facial rejuvenation.

Recovery

There is little to no downtime associated with BOTOX® injections. Although the sites of injection may appear slightly swollen or red, these symptoms will dissipate over the next few hours.

The practice of medicine and surgery is not an exact science. Although good results are expected, there is no guarantee. In some situations, it may not be possible to achieve optimal results with a single procedure and another procedure may be necessary. In rare cases, a complication may arise, but can be managed when immediately reported to Dr. Champion.

The results of BOTOX® are expected to last up to three or four months, although it is not uncommon for the effects to last longer. The appearance of a more youthful face often gives Dr. Champion’s patients a renewed sense of confidence.

Radiesse®

RADIESSE® is an injectable filler that corrects moderate to severe facial wrinkles and improves the fullness of the face where fat has been lost. RADIESSE® is effective in treating:

  • Smile lines (creases around the nose and mouth)
  • Marionette lines (lines that run from the mouth to the chin)
  • Nose (restoring shape and adding fullness)
  • Cheeks (improve volume)
  • Chin (add volume and definition)
  • Jaw line (restore definition and elasticity)

RADIESSE® Injections

Using a very fine needle, RADIESSE® is injected directly into the face. Multiple injections are usually administered to different regions of the face during the same treatment to achieve full facial rejuvenation.

Recovery

Like other fillers, the face may swell or appear slightly red directly after the injections are complete. However, these symptoms will diminish over the next few hours, as there is little to no downtime associated with RADIESSE® injections.

In rare cases, a complication may arise, but can be managed when immediately reported to Dr. Champion.

RADIESSE® injections can last in upwards of six months, producing results that can last even longer due to the production of new collagen cells. In most instances, the appearance of a noticeably more youthful face gives patients a new sense of self-confidence.

Juvederm®

What is Juvéderm® and What does it Do?

juvederm-4-295x300 Non-Invasive Newport Beach Female Plastic Surgeon | Orange CountyJuvéderm® is a facial filler used to fill out facial wrinkles including those between the nose and the corners of the lips (nasolabial folds) also known as “smile lines.” It is also used to fill those areas of the face that have lost fat during the aging process, resulting in an angular and sometimes sagging face. Juvéderm® can be used to plump lips and to smooth wrinkles under the eyes. The basic component of Juvéderm®, hyaluronic acid, is a natural contributor to smooth facial lines and with Juvéderm®, it is being restored to levels that have been reduced with age. Has it been Approved for Safety?

It is a gel that contains primarily hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in human skin and muscle that contributes to skin hydration and volume. The FDA approved it in 2006 for cosmetic use in treating nasiolabial folds. It has become one of the most popular facial fillers in the United States, competing with Restylane, Zyplast and Hylaform for the hyaluronic acid filler market. Since being introduced to the facial rejuvenation market, hyaluronic acid injections have become second only to Botox® in popularity. There were one million injections of Juvéderm® and similar fillers performed by U.S. plastic surgeons in 2008.

Is it Permanent?

Juvéderm® lasts from six months to one year, depending on the patient (and on whom you ask). It functions well for temporary lip augmentation, injected through tiny incisions on the inside corners of the mouth. The biological activity of hyaluronic acid is such that it absorbs water, contributing fullness to the area under the skin. It also binds with collagen and interacts with other cells in such a manner as to cause skin to create new collagen.

Collagen is a fibrous protein that supports skin and is the natural key to that smooth face that comes with youth. The aging process is accompanied by a loss of collagen. Juvéderm® is one product that is designed to both mimic its effects and generate new collagen within the area where it has been injected. Using a naturally-occurring substance to recreate a youthful appearance is the safest approach to physical rejuvenation – there is no use of substances that are foreign to the human body.

What are the After-Effects?

The injections will cause the usual temporary swelling and bruising around the injection points. Temporary redness will also impact the areas that have been filled with Juvéderm®; the swelling and inflammation should be gone within a week or so. There is also a history of more serious reactions to Juvéderm® from people with severe allergies. The manufacturer warns against use of the product with allergenic patients, as will Dr. Champion in your interview. Allergic reactions include facial lumps known as granulomas which will require additional treatment by a physician.

Why Juvéderm®?

Juvéderm® is a versatile filler. Cosmetic surgeons are comfortable using it to augment both lips and cheeks. Its primary use treating the smile lines between mouth and nose has proven to be effective, and doctors have begun to apply it to areas beneath the eyes. It works for eyes with hollowed areas beneath them; it is less effective for lined and puffy lower lids because it is a filler. It is also generally found to be a painful injection process; although accepting a local anesthetic is probably advisable.

Juvéderm®’s major competitor, Restylane, has a lower concentration of hyaluronic acid and has higher viscosity, making it thicker and more difficult as an injectable. Juvéderm® restores a fluid that is critical to smooth, youthful skin and causes it to increase in volume. It has proven itself as an effective filler for dozens of Dr. Champion’s patients.
