ZO Skin Health Seminar

photo-3-e1399501604177-225x300 ZO Skin Health Seminar Newport Beach Female Plastic Surgeon | Orange CountySkincare is one of the most important steps in our fight against aging!  What is the first thing you really notice when you meet someone?  Their skin.  Is it dry, oily, loose, wrinkled? It can age you but it can also make you look years younger! Skincare is something that always needs to be updated because as we age, our body chemistry changes so naturally our skincare needs also change.  You can have the best result from a Face Lift alone but coupled with the right skincare, you will achieve the most optimal result! We recently went to a seminar at the Balboa Bay Club and had a chance to meet Dr. Obagi, listen to him speak, ask questions and basically pick his brain.  When you hear him speak, you can just tell that he has a true passion for the skin which explains why his own skin is glowing!  He knows what works and what is a waste of time & money.  That is why he developed ZO Skin Health.  Everything in the line has a specific job to do and actually works together to clear your complexion, fade dark spots, even out texture and overall help you look years younger, so don’t be fooled by the products out there that promise a miracle in a bottle!  We constantly strive to continue our education on skincare so we can give you the most up-to-date information to help you maintain your beautiful skin or to help you achieve your goals for clear, beautiful skin!

Can I have a “Mommy Makeover”?

spl112442_001-ali-landry-239x300 Can I have a "Mommy Makeover"? Newport Beach Female Plastic Surgeon | Orange CountyMany people have a general idea of what a “Mommy Makeover” is just from the clever name that was derived from the commonality of the procedure.  Basically it makes mommy over, right?  Yes!  Moms can get their pre-baby body back with a breast procedure and tummy procedure performed at the same time!  Doing it at once, saves on recovery time so mom can get back to being a mom!  Just a side note, but one thing you may not know is that you really don’t have to be a mom to have a “Mommy Makeover”.

Although it is mostly moms who want this procedure, weight loss patients can also benefit from it because of the breast deflation and loose skin associated from weight loss.  With that said & focusing on moms, “Mommy Makeovers” are  a popular procedure with a high satisfaction rate.  After babies and nursing, you lose the volume you once had in your breasts and they become deflated, droopy and you may even have stretch marks.

Carrying your baby for all those months can loosen your stomach muscles and stretch out your skin resulting in possible stretch marks and loose skin that unfortunately, no amount of exercise will get rid of.  Do you still have that pooch even though you do thousands of sit ups and eat right?  That is most likely because your abdominal muscles have loosened up and need to get tightened up again, but that can be better determined at your exam.  If you are done with babies and are ready to get your body back to pre-baby shape, interested in learning more about the procedure and most importantly, which procedures would benefit you the most, you may want to consider a “Mommy Makeover” with Dr. Angela Champion.

What is a Breast Augmentation?

images-2 What is a Breast Augmentation? Newport Beach Female Plastic Surgeon | Orange CountyBreast Augmentation

When you think of a breast augmentation, some people automatically think of very large, voluminous breasts.  While you can achieve that, there are many women walking around who have had a breast augmentation and you would never know because they look so natural.  This procedure is one of the most gratifying procedures and is the most requested procedure by women today! Not only does it increase the volume and fullness of your breasts, it can also enhance your self-image and confidence!

Silicone gel or saline implants are typically placed under the muscle through an incision which is well-hidden in an area like the breast fold, under the areola or in your under arm. This procedure can take about an hour to an hour and a half under general anesthesia (you are asleep). Over the next several weeks, continue to follow your post-op instructions and you should notice your swelling resolving, your implants dropping, your breasts softening and looking more and more like the breasts you envisioned.  There are activity restrictions that your surgeon will discuss with you but you can typically return to most, if not all, of your normal activity within 4-6 weeks or sooner depending on how you heal.  Be sure to see a Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, like Dr. Champion, for your consultation to learn if you are a good candidate for this procedure!

What is the best breast implant for me?

images-2-copy-3 What is the best breast implant for me? Newport Beach Female Plastic Surgeon | Orange CountySilicone or saline?  High profile or Moderate profile?  It can be confusing so here is some information about implants that will hopefully be helpful in your decision making process.  Both are FDA approved and good implants.  Both can have a lifespan of 10-15-20 years or more but they are not lifelong devices.  With the expectation of living a long, healthy, happy life, you will most likely have another surgery at some point and switch them out due to reasons such as pregnancy, life changes or possibly implant deflation or rupture.

Deciding between silicone or saline breast augmentation can be difficult but shouldn’t be something to lose sleep over.  If you are not quite sure about the new cohesive silicone gel implant even after your consultation, saline is definitely an acceptable choice.  They will both give you the desired result of enhancement which is typically the goal of a breast augmentation.  breast-augmentation-new-jersey-300x198 What is the best breast implant for me? Newport Beach Female Plastic Surgeon | Orange CountyA saline implant is a silicone shell filled with saline water.  If it deflates, your breast will go flat and saline will absorb into your body.  A silicone implant is the same silicone shell filled with a cohesive gel so if it were to rupture, you will not notice a change in your breast size but may possibly feel a hardening of your breast.  If you are concerned after for example, a trauma, go see your surgeon and an MRI can be ordered to help determine if you do indeed have a rupture.  In both cases, you will need to have your implants replaced sooner than later.  One other important thing to consider, if you do not have a lot of your own breast tissue to help camouflage the implant, silicone gel may be a better choice because it does feel more like a real breast than the saline.

Depending on your expectations and chest measurements, your surgeon can help determine which profile would be best for you.  Size of implant can also be determined based on your expectations and what your body can realistically accommodate.  Your consultation with Dr. Champion is going to be very helpful in your decision making process, as implants are discussed in depth and you can also touch and feel them so you have a better understanding of what will be in your body.  Remember, whichever implant you decide on, they are both good implants and will give you fuller breasts that you can enjoy for years to come!

What is Botox??

We’ve all heard about BOTOX® but what exactly is it? In a nutshell…it’s a few tiny injections that temporarily gets rid of the wrinkles on your face!! For some, those words alone are enough to entice you to try it (and love it) but some of us want more information before they go injecting something into their face. If you are one of the latter, read on to learn about BOTOX® so you can make an informed decision. Here we go…BOTOX® is the 1st FDA approved botulinum toxin to temporarily improve moderate to severe frown lines between your brows. images-1 What is Botox?? Newport Beach Female Plastic Surgeon | Orange County It has been used to treat numerous disorders from spasticity to hyperhydrosis (over-sweating) and is currently used in almost every sub-specialty of medicine! Interesting, right?? It’s been used for cosmetic purposes since being FDA approved in 2002 with around 11 million procedures being done. Although only approved for the frown lines, it can be used to treat crows feet and forehead/worry lines giving you a smooth, rested appearance! You will notice your wrinkles smoothing away gradually and peaking at about 7-10 days. Most patients notice it gradually going away at around 3-4 months, which is your cue to make your appointment for your next treatment! You may experience some bruising at the injection site so be sure to avoid blood thinners about a week prior to your treatment.

Many also use BOTOX® preventatively as an anti-aging measure to fight wrinkles before they get too deep & become permanent when your face is resting, and it is consistently one of the top cosmetic non-invasive procedures according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Selfie Obsession!!

selfie-300x156 Selfie Obsession!! Newport Beach Female Plastic Surgeon | Orange County Selfie Obsession and Plastic Surgery

Everyone is doing it! Can you guess what “IT” is? If you said SELFIES, you are right!! They are quickly (if not already) becoming a huge trend in social media but did you know that psychiatrists are linking them to a person’s obsession about their looks?? Let’s admit it, when we take a selfie, we take several over & over, right? We critique our skin, face, hair & so forth, until we find the perfect one we want to post…where we look just right! Check out these stats from The American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery. They conducted a member survey to uncover the latest trends in cosmetic procedures and found that there was a 10% increase in Rhinoplasty as well as a 6% increase in eyelid surgery in 2013. What do you think…sounds like a result of selfies?!? Social platforms are clearly forcing patients to hold a microscope up to their own image & look at themselves with a more self-critical eye.
